Two ways in. Pick the one that fits.

Both are free for any use, including commercial use. Without a license file, copies share 1 Gbit/s in total. With a licensed Farwing Server at the far end, the server's license sets the speed.

If someone sent you a link from their Farwing Server, get Farwing Desktop. If you copy files between machines from a terminal, get the command-line client. You can have both.

Farwing farwing

Run the installer for your system, then copy with farwing cp the way you would with scp. Point it at a license file to raise the speed.

1 Download the installer, then run it.

2 Copy a file to a host you can reach with SSH.

Click Copy to select the command, then press Ctrl+C (or ⌘C on a Mac).

Farwing Desktop

The app you install on a workstation to send and receive files with a Farwing Server. Click a Farwing link in the browser and Farwing Desktop runs the transfer in its own window, at full speed, with pause and resume and a check of every file when it arrives. No terminal needed. The Farwing Server's license sets the speed, so a free Farwing Desktop is never the limit.

Install and first start

Windows
  1. Run farwing-desktop-windows-x64-setup.exe and follow the steps. No administrator rights are needed. IT teams can deploy the MSI package instead.
  2. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. If this computer has no Microsoft Edge WebView2, the installer adds it. That needs an internet connection.
  4. Farwing Desktop then opens Farwing links from your browser. The first time, your browser asks whether to open Farwing Desktop: allow it.
macOS
  1. Open farwing-desktop-macos-universal.dmg and drag Farwing Desktop into Applications.
  2. The first time, macOS may say it cannot check the app. Control-click Farwing Desktop in Applications, choose Open, then Open again. On macOS 15 or later, open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.
  3. After that first start, Farwing links from your browser open it. Your browser asks once whether to allow that.
Linux
  1. On Ubuntu or Debian, install the .deb package: sudo apt install ./farwing-desktop-linux-amd64.deb
  2. Or use the AppImage, which needs no install: chmod +x farwing-desktop-linux-x86_64.AppImage, then run it.
  3. Start Farwing Desktop once. From then on, Farwing links from your browser open it.
